POEM: A Man of Promise

A poem of what is owed, what is the present, and what is yet to come…

A Man of Promise

“What is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
–Micah 6:8

“Jesus promised his disciples three things — that they would be completely fearless, absurdly happy, and in constant trouble.”
–William Barclay, commentary on The Gospel of Luke

Awe that God
Axis too due
Justice
Loving mercy
And walking humbly
As a man of promise
I am
The free-est
Man I know
Wear joy abides
In that beautiful pain the accost
Of keeping won’s eye on the price
Mitigated only by
Not getting out that much
Accept to be
Completely
Fearless
Inexplicably happy
And in constant trouble
