The U.S. investment in massive data centers all over the country when the U.S. AI models are outperformed by Chinese AI models at less than one-hundredth the cost may very well guarantee that we get the short end of the stick in the new AI colonialism, where China has the dominant AI models, the true centers of value-added wealth, and the U.S. provides the raw material of pure computing power — though one of the main reasons Chinese AI models are much, much less expensive is that they are not dependent on as huge of amounts of sheer computation power. This poem lays this out, within the sadder context that whoever is our AI overlord, we may all be screwed, whether lorded over by U.S. oligarchs, Chinese state-controlled AI, or AI itself…

This situation also reminds me of the notion that it is better to listen to great music on crappy speakers than listen to crappy music on the best speakers in the world.
