A poem for the actual first responders, prevention workers of awe kinds. NOTE: If you are not named specifically, we know that you are used to it…
First Responders Knot
A shooting
A heart attack
A suicide
A drunken wreck
Law enforcement and EMS
Quickly respond
In that ninth inning stretch
Pining the needle
Of overdue and overdo
Not quiet
Reminding us
Of heroics long for gotten
As hidden in efface
As sum of us
Know wear
To be found
A triple bypass
Of teachers
Counselors
Public health workers
And them ilk
Of compassion
In the long haul
Of un-scene
In the whirled
Of overwhelming convention
And underwhelming prevention
