Yesterday, a group of eight Toledoans met with the staff of Ohio Senator Jon Husted. This visit was a follow-up from a visit last month where we presented several specific questions to be answered in this visit. There were no answers — not even whether we would or could get answers at some possibly defined time. Part of our quest was to ascertain if and what hard boundaries the senator might have on some of the key issues of the day, e.g., genocide, sex trafficking of minors, deporting our neighbors without due process. None identified. The sense of the group was that we are beating our heads bloody against a wall, of, at best, impotent staff, and a presumably intransigent senator nowhere to be found. We will persist, though eventually these monthly meetings will likely end up with a protest outside the senator’s Toledo office — where the staff can meet us at our<\/em> office. This poem is my first shot across the bow.<\/p>\n

Amoral Architecture<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Infrastructure weak
\nInfrastructure weak
\nInfrastructure weak
\nThe infrastructure bill
\nIs due
\nUnimaginably passed due
\nOur moral architecture
\nWhat remains
\nOf what is right
\nAnd left standing
\nIn a no standing zone
\nSoully whispers
\nHerd in dark coroners
\nOf our body politic
\nEver lusting echoes
\nIn eternal silence
\nOf those who didn\u2019t make it
\nAnd those who did make it
\nFallowing, the sociopaths
\nWell trod on US
\nEven sow, we question the same
\nNo answer
\nKnow answer
\nPassing the buck
\nTo the poor
\nThe good news on the cheap
\nWile corporate prophets
\nAnd corrupt politicos
\nSay buy buy to public goods
\nAnd dearly departing common cents
\nTo be discontinued
\nBuy the way
\nThe human raze
\nThey lamely posture
\nWhat are we, maid of money?
\nTaken, the goaled
\nAs neighbors made strangers
\nWith coppers
\nThe faceless and nameless
\nAnd what is the lessen?
\nThere is no mettle, class
\nSoully taut propaganda
\nChaos and corruption
\nOr better yet, just incompetence
\nMean wile
\nThe rich get richered
\nAnd the poor get dick
\nAlways going back on
\nWord
\nTheir final solution
\nTaking leave of US
\nAnd never budge it
\nAs moral document
\nWithout papers
\nTaking out verbal contracts
\nOn us
