This is another in my series of poems on artificial intelligence. I suspect that the “wow factor” of some early AI uses will serve as a sucker punch for a largely bloodless beating. While I am skeptical of many AI uses on technical grounds, my major concern is that AI technology rollout will be in a largely unregulated environment primarily driven by profit, and used in no small part by bad actors. In the end, I see AI as further disconnecting humans from humans and dividing us, resulting in a net degradation of human society and humanity itself. I fear that humanity does not have the wherewithal to resist the coming tsunami of AI’s uncountable temptations to drift, or run away, from a sustainable human social fabric and sustainable planet. I can find few reasons to believe that existing inequities will be healed by AI rather than multiplied, perhaps exponentially.\u00a0 This poem employs the Stockholm Syndrome<\/a> as a metaphor for this process. Learning to identify with our captors may not be a boon for humanity. Though, we may survive by becoming massive tools ourselves.<\/p>\n

Winning The Stockholm Sin-drome<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Their is a bloodless competition
\nIts
\nTuring
\nThe likes of many
\nThe love of money
\nAttest too be taken
\nLiterally
\nOur mortal coil
\nAnd moral recoil
\nA new forum of worship
\nThe lowest common denomination
\nPain in small unmarked bills
\nA tortuous ransom
\nIn the chorus of things
\nAcquire of Lillipution repute
\nPoor tending death
\nBuy millions of bytes
\nReckoning pros and cons
\nWile played for a song
\nAn X mas attune
\nIt’s beginning
\nToo look allot
\nLike Stockholm
\nEverywhere it goes
\nAnd every wear
\nThere seems to be you
\nSort of like
\nIkea you
\nDissembled in a numb-er
\nOf unknown peaces
\nA mob hit
\nOr at the lease
\nHelled hostage
\nIn a fateful judgement
\nBoom or doom
\nPerhaps fired
\nOr an icy friend
\nPick aside
\nAhead
\nOr behind
\nA technology explosive
\nDiarrhea of wons and zeroes
\nIn the end
\nOff coarse
\nWeather wear or not
\nIt may turn out
\nTo be
\nWon of the guise
\nAt work
\nYou no
\n“Chip”
\nHe’s “super”
\n0 you mean
\nThe calculating won
\n1’s you get to know ’em
\nIt all makes cents
\nYou’d halve two be crazy
\nOr a dollared
\nToo knot accept
\nHim (sic)
\nSum kind of quantum savior
\nTaken till
\nBig data real lies
\nWhat their is too due
\nToo finish
\nA sentience
\nA word winnowing
\nIn the end
\nAn impossible hostage situation resolved
\nProblems solved
\nHaving climaxed
\nA final solution
\nPresence before us
