I often wake up to the sound of traffic on I-75 about a half mile from my house. I yearn for quiet in my life. I mourn the impossibility of true quiet in the city. I also no that addiction to busyness and unfettered commerce that fouls our natural world and manufactures a culture that spews heir pollution. This poem is an ode to rivers of petroleum kindling an overly concrete whirled.<\/p>\n

Semi-Quiet Neighborhood: Ode to I-75<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Weather early mourn
\nOr passed the midnight hour
\nA river of asphalt
\nOverly concrete
\nDivides silence and noise
\nHalf a smile away
\nThe dawning
\nOf a semi-quiet neighborhood
\nDelivering a definitive coo
\nHumming a crude attune
\nA buzz of impending busyness
\nCommerce and other intercourse
\nReady to rumble
\nTrafficking in every workable wake
\nA purr preoccupation
\nOut bidding us
\nAs you whir
\nEntreating us
\nDrone on
\nSo-so much winning
\nDaze upon daze
\nThe supposed vehicles of hour security
\nAs you worry free
\nKneading knot
\nThe future weights
\nSpewing heir pollution
\nLike there is no tomorrow
\nSounding every alarm
