The massacre of 11 congregants at Tree of Life synagogue was the worst anti-Semitic hate crime in modern America. Today, a jury decided that the convicted Pittsburgh synagogue mass shooter is eligible for the death penalty.\u00a0 The trial will now move forward into a final phase in which the jury will hear evidence before deciding if the mass murderer should be sentenced to death or to life in prison. Responding to death with death is an epic moral question that religious faiths and nations have grappled with fore generations. With this poem, I give you my take:<\/p>\n

Passing On Death<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In hour congregation tacked
\nWill we fine Sabbath
\nAs amass shooting
\nOne lessen after brutal lessen
\nTree of life
\nPlundered by an evil hack
\nRipping aweigh 11 souls
\nAs grave as kin be
\nWading long trials
\nUnending mournings
\nAnd countless contemplations
\nWhat too due
\nBuy and bye billing
\nUpon a hate crime
\nA jury
\nElects the doo ability
\nOf death begetting death
\nAn aching punishment
\nAt the capital of our body politic
\nAn aye for an eye
\nA commandment beyond ten
\nCan we forget to right that cycle?
\nWill we be Abel
\nCompassed bye a murderous rage
\nTo form a life sentence
\nWhere words flail
\nAn anti-semantic crime
