\nThe president no’s stuff<\/strong>
\nThat wee don’t<\/strong>
\nReal lies<\/strong>
\nPinocchio without puppeteers<\/strong>
\nCyrano’s muzzle sow credible<\/strong>
\nUndisclosed pickings of boogie men<\/strong>
\nObscuring a lode of crop<\/strong>
\nNot too be shared<\/strong>
\nImpolite company<\/strong>
\nHelled as rue’d or over-sullen<\/strong>
\nToo reefer or a lude <\/strong>
\nAs in appropriate cons piracy<\/strong>
\nOf the public goods<\/strong>
\nIn farced buy their whored of privates<\/strong>
\nFree speeches and hush money<\/strong>
\nAt our ever be quest<\/strong>
\nOnly in the service of<\/strong>
\nGag hors d’oeuvres<\/strong>
\nWading for good ciao<\/strong>
\nAs if<\/strong>
\nThe qualm before the stormin’<\/strong>
\nReading between the lies<\/strong>
\nYou don’t say<\/strong>
\nAnd ever prey<\/strong>
\nAn American<\/strong>
\nYes<\/strong><\/p>\n

This poem is about the president and commander-in-chief enshrined in a web of secrecy and power, and the commensurate lies and inevitable compromising of the public trust. \u00a0The timing of the publication of this poem may allude specifically to Donald Trump, but I wrote this poem long ago about EVERY president. \u00a0Of coarse, the particulars on Donald Trump exemplify the harsh eternal truths that this poem dares udder. \u00a0\"Governments<\/a>Governments and politicians, the human agents of government, lie (to others and themselves) for the benefit of powerful interests other than the public good. \u00a0Some presidents squeak out more or less public good than others, but power is as power does — ask anyone living daily on the short end of power. \u00a0Speaking truth to power is not the natural habit of the powerful. \u00a0Speaking about, talking about, truth is a prerequisite for politicians in civilized societies. \u00a0Unfortunately, politicians’ rhetoric is, more often than not, directed at tutoring and propagandizing the masses rather than challenging the powerful few. \u00a0Cow-towing to powerful elites eviscerates the very power that truth offers: power for all.<\/p>\n

Elites disparage the vulgar\u00a0“mob” as a danger to democracy rather than a danger of democracy. \u00a0The masses are disposed to mistake the occasional rituals of voting as democracy. \u00a0Whereas, real democracy is derived directly from the lives and actions of the people. \u00a0\"I<\/a>This is the truth revealed by the statement that the people get the government\u00a0that they deserve. \u00a0What else could be expected? \u00a0If we can or will not govern ourselves, then what will fill that vacuum of governance? \u00a0In this disrespect, Donald Trump offers himself as a striking poser, claiming that when he is running the government he will regulate himself in a better way than when he was not. \u00a0The sorry truth is that Donald trump cannot lead himself, let alone others — which he will not! \u00a0Of course, in the same disrespect that a traffic crash or celebrity captures our undisciplined attention, Donald Trump will have inordinate influence on our lives. \u00a0We must pry our eyes from the vagaries of disaster capitalism and disaster democracy and keep our eyes on the prize.<\/p>\n

“Keep Your Eyes on the Prize”<\/a> is a folk song made most popular during the civil rights struggles of the 50’s and 60’s. \u00a0The journey and the prize are inscrutably bound, exercising our freedom of body and soul for ever more freedom of body and soul. \u00a0Here are the lyrics:<\/p>\n
