{"id":2367,"date":"2016-06-27T09:15:30","date_gmt":"2016-06-27T14:15:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/?p=2367"},"modified":"2016-06-27T09:15:30","modified_gmt":"2016-06-27T14:15:30","slug":"poem-awe-due-consideration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/27\/poem-awe-due-consideration\/","title":{"rendered":"POEM: Awe Due Consideration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What is good<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A bout religion<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>At best<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>There is little to say<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Giving a fare hearing<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>More about listening<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Too small<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Still voices<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Respecting only what due<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Saving<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A few choice words<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>For those empower<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Occupying humanity<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Only in sow far<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>As won for all<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Quiet an undertaking<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>As ambitious silence<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>And ponderous a void<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>That vulnerable space<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>And venerable pace<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Between word and deed<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Owned by awe<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Wear know thinking<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Aloud<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>For awe to consider<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This poem is about the confounding\u00a0truth that the universe of truth is quiet literally beyond words. \u00a0Words are representations, symbols of something else, which may allow us to think about something but\u00a0often are poor vehicles for bringing about the direct experience to which we are referencing. \u00a0Even mathematics, considered the purist science, is mirrorly a representation of truth, not truth itself. \u00a0Even if a unified theory of mathematics and physics is elucidated, this will give\u00a0mournfully flimsy assurance in the quest for an enlightened humanity and moral living in everyday life. Perhaps the most grave bias in postmodern existence is mistaking words and science, even the most erudite collections of words and symbols referred to as ideologies, theologies, or bodies of scientific knowledge, as the living truth. \u00a0I consider the most profound truths as existing directly through experience, not the recounting of experience or observations. \u00a0This is why I consider consciousness as the most fundamental aspect of reality\/existence. \u00a0I won&#8217;t elaborate on that, hear. \u00a0It is no accident that I am drawn to poetry in the Siren&#8217;s song of the whirled&#8217;s parent chaos, and reverent silence in the muse&#8217;s presents. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Religious-Spiritual\/Buttons\/He-who-does-not-understand-your-silence-will-probably-not-understand-your-words-Elbert-Hubbard-quote-SPIRITUAL-BUTTON.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Religious-Spiritual\/He-who-does-not-understand-your-silence-will-probably-not-understand-your-words-Elbert-Hubbard-quote.gif\" alt=\"He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words --Elbert Hubbard quote SPIRITUAL BUTTON\" width=\"172\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a>I save irreverence for my words. \u00a0I prefer the metaphor as a vehicle for reflecting upon truth because it has the humble recognition that what it is trying to say is quite literally not what it is literally saying. \u00a0This poem picks on religion first and foremost, perhaps paradoxically, because its grand task is most poorly suited for words. \u00a0The phase, &#8220;shut the hell up,&#8221; comes to mine. \u00a0I am a big fan of St. Francis&#8217; proposition, &#8220;Preach the Gospel at all times; if necessary, use words.&#8221; \u00a0This is close kin to my favorite proposition of Gandhi, &#8220;Be the change you want to see in the world.&#8221; \u00a0Both of these quotes lift up action compared to fancy erudition. \u00a0Both seek integral and centered being as the pivotal place and space for right action. \u00a0St. Francis recognized that speaking, languages of symbols, is a grand gift of humans, but that in many circumstances, a moral economy imbues greater value with scarcity. \u00a0While, awe things considered, silence may be the language of God, the awesome need to share our experiences with one another bids us to dare speak, to dare improve upon silence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is good A bout religion At best There is little to say Giving a fare hearing More about listening Too small Still voices Respecting only what due Saving A few choice words For those empower Occupying humanity Only in &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/27\/poem-awe-due-consideration\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[32,9,15],"tags":[294,397,442,167,116,428,154,608,65,76,305,426,359,155,552,413,658,94,107,82,601,83,375,390,131,421,487],"class_list":["post-2367","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-about-top-pun","category-poems","category-political-and-philosophical-musings","tag-awe","tag-change","tag-chaos","tag-consciousness","tag-economy","tag-experience","tag-gandhi","tag-gift","tag-god","tag-hell","tag-humanity","tag-irreverence","tag-life","tag-moral","tag-muse","tag-physics","tag-poems","tag-poetry","tag-poor","tag-quotes","tag-reality","tag-religion","tag-scarcity","tag-science","tag-silence","tag-truth","tag-universe"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>POEM: Awe Due Consideration | About Top Pun, Poems, Political and Philosophical Musings | Top Pun&#039;s Poetry, Funny Puns, Free Posters, Public Health Radio Show!
