In anesthetizing hope<\/strong>
\nA certain author<\/strong>
\nDid what he thought was write<\/strong>
\nSow cerebrally saying<\/strong>
\nHope is not a feeling<\/strong>
\nRather hope is an action<\/strong>
\nTo wit I despond<\/strong>
\nThis brakes down positively<\/strong>
\nWhy I get<\/strong>
\nThe extinct feeling of hope<\/strong>
\nReading such erudite scribble<\/strong>
\nJust happening to be<\/strong>
\nThe lowest forum of action<\/strong>
\nAs well<\/strong>
\nA supposed righting tool<\/strong>
\nLeaving in action<\/strong>
\nIn deed on arrival<\/strong>
\nToo such a tome<\/strong>
\nMany fold<\/strong>
\nFalling short<\/strong>
\nTo feat in the real world<\/strong>
\nSuch fealty faltering<\/strong>
\nWithout lucid dreaming<\/strong>
\nAs a plying hope<\/strong>
\nAnd as leafing threw<\/strong>
\nMade up mine<\/strong>
\nTo ink for myself<\/strong>
\nA stroke of genus more hopeful<\/strong>
\nAn aesthetic<\/strong>
\nI’m willing to minister<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Got<\/a>Here is a poem about the benefit of feeling hope. \u00a0This poem was inspired by my reading, many years ago, of “God’s Politics<\/em>,” by Jim Wallis. \u00a0This book had little resonance with my soul. \u00a0I had an epiphany as to why this was the case, far into the book, when the author claimed that hope was an action not a feeling. \u00a0Thus, his viewpoint seamlessly resulted in me not feeling hope when reading his book. \u00a0Of course, I have since then done the impossible, feeling hope, on a daily basis. \u00a0Hope is a common theme in my writing, and I hope that this remains the case. \u00a0\"Everything<\/a>This poem also plays with the notion of writing as one of the lower forms of action, mocking somewhat the irony of the author’s assertion in the lowly act of writing of lifting up presumably more hopeful actions, as well as a little self-parody as a writer myself. \u00a0I have little doubt that hope incarnates in\u00a0both feelings and actions, propelling us toward our dreams. \u00a0As a recovering abstract intellectual, I can relate to the author’s cerebral assertion. \u00a0Nonetheless, my whole body of experience informs me that hope exists as a feeling, as well. \u00a0I have an activist friend who consistently behaves in a way that gives me hope — including feeling hope — yet she often\u00a0does not experience the feeling of hope herself. \u00a0\"How<\/a>I do not understand the grace behind some people feeling hope when behaving hopefully and those who behave hopefully despite<\/em><\/strong> not feeling hopeful. \u00a0I think the latter case may be what Jim Wallis is addressing, perhaps reflecting his own experience. \u00a0Interestingly, I actually feel\u00a0great hope in witnessing people behave hopefully despite not feeling hopeful. \u00a0What an odd, though beautiful, blessing to the world — not having to feel hopeful to behave hopefully. \u00a0I’m not sure I could do that consistently. \u00a0I wish that those behaving hopefully would have the congruent feeling of hope. \u00a0Still, I surely can’t complain that I get a double portion of hope, my own hope plus theirs! \u00a0Ah, such is my lot in life. \u00a0May you experience hope, one way or the other.<\/p>\n
