Her life was written<\/strong>
\nIn the margins<\/strong>
\nTolled in fine print<\/strong>
\nSubject to lexicons<\/strong>
\nBeyond apprehension<\/strong>
\nNot adorned by elegant types<\/strong>
\nOr gaudy cursive<\/strong>
\nIn fancy addresses<\/strong>
\nWear truth is stranger then fiction<\/strong>
\nMore than won could possibly ink<\/strong>
\nNever the lass, a worthy tale<\/strong>
\nAt any rate, without prints charming<\/strong>
\nRepulsed by such false hood<\/strong>
\nA version true<\/strong>
\nTo the hands she was dealt<\/strong>
\nNever to be red<\/strong>
\nBye patron eyes<\/strong>
\nPerhaps only to be recalled<\/strong>
\nBy awe that made her<\/strong>
\nMore than quiet right<\/strong>
\nOr left<\/strong>
\nTo live free how<\/strong>
\nEver out of bounds<\/strong><\/p>\n

This poem is a story about a woman whose life cannot be captured by\u00a0any conventional telling, dominant customs, nor any mere man. \u00a0\"got<\/a>This poem is a testament to women’s tenacious endurance,\u00a0creative expression, grounded sensibilities, unequaled solidarity, authentic presence, and bold healing they bring to the world. \u00a0She centers an off-kilter world in unremitting celebrations of life. Still, my words can only fail in awe of the sacred silence from which she speaks. May my shutting up be an honorable beginning.<\/p>\n
