He saw<\/strong>
\nThe future<\/strong>
\nIn have<\/strong>
\nLike sum carnival game<\/strong>
\nDestined to win<\/strong>
\nAs if<\/strong>
\nIn sane<\/strong>
\nAs blown two bits<\/strong>
\nCaught looking<\/strong>
\nLike a fun house mirror<\/strong>
\nMirror on the wall<\/strong>
\nAxing who is the fairest<\/strong>
\nOf ummm awe<\/strong>
\nBusted by what is shard<\/strong>
\nWith no won<\/strong>
\nAs too haves<\/strong>
\nMake a hole<\/strong>
\nUnfull<\/strong>
\nFilled in<\/strong>
\nPresence intact<\/strong>
\nWith twisted knows<\/strong>
\nAnd everybody stretched<\/strong>
\nBeyond recognition<\/strong>
\nOf what is awe<\/strong>
\nReady today<\/strong><\/p>\n

This poem is an ode to my experience of life becoming increasingly surreal. \u00a0I am perpetually befuddled at how we humans can bypass the ever-present awe freely available in any God-given moment for the cheap, gaudy prizes hawked by the carnival barkers of our so-called civilization. \u00a0Money and possessions possess us. \u00a0Having trumps being. \u00a0Our fixations on imprisoning security, superficial celebrity and vain distractions, ego-catering status, and national power distort our worldviews like a fun-house mirror, a broken won at that. \u00a0Denial fuels us into believing that our common cents whirled is accurate, or perhaps inescapable, if not necessarily healthy. \u00a0Acceptance is not about pawning hope or cynically tolerating “necessary” evil; rather acceptance is simply seeing things as they are. \u00a0I strongly suspect, and hope, that my befuddlement emanates from the gap between seeing things as the really are versus the circus of awe-consuming\u00a0American culture blowing through town and this flicker of human and planetary history. \u00a0May we all see things, and accept things, as they really are, making it most possible to fulfill our most deeply real dreams.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
