Bertolt Brecht quote PEACE BUTTON\" width=\"172\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a>This poem is a tribute to apologists for evil everywhere.\u00a0 The lesser of two evils rationalization is perhaps the all-time most popular moral shortcut.\u00a0 Unfortunately, when evil is embraced, morality is cut loose.\u00a0 The &#8220;necessity&#8221; defense is actually an abnegation of moral agency altogether, pretending that no choice exists.\u00a0 Of course, where there is no choice, there is no morality, or perhaps more conveniently, no immorality.\u00a0 So much for freedom marching on!\u00a0 For you can&#8217;t have freedom without its twin: responsibility, that bully big brother.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Peace\/Buttons\/The-face-of-the-enemy-frightens-me-only-when-I-see-how-much-it-resembles-mine-Stanislaw-J-Lec-quote-PEACE-BUTTON.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Peace\/The-face-of-the-enemy-frightens-me-only-when-I-see-how-much-it-resembles-mine-Stanislaw-J-Lec-quote.gif\" alt=\"The face of the enemy frightens me only when I see how much it resembles mine. Stanislaw J. Lec quote PEACE BUTTON\" width=\"172\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a>Ultimately, one&#8217;s own responsibility is morphed out of existence into an other&#8217;s accountability.\u00a0 He &#8220;made me&#8221; do it.\u00a0 As we become an impersonal &#8212; and amoral &#8212; force for precious accountability, we polish a veneer of morality, all the wile avoiding personal responsibility for our own actions.\u00a0 Most simply put, we become mirrorly a consequence of evil, our moral agency be dammed! We become an effect of evil rather than a cause for good.\u00a0 Morality necessarily involves restraint, the project of limiting our choices, hopefully to good choices, among all possible choices.\u00a0 The key point is that it focuses on self-restraint, not other-restraint.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Peace\/Buttons\/It-s-hard-to-fight-an-enemy-who-has-outposts-in-your-head-Sally-Kempton-quote-PEACE-BUTTON.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Peace\/It-s-hard-to-fight-an-enemy-who-has-outposts-in-your-head-Sally-Kempton-quote.gif\" alt=\"It's hard to fight an enemy who has outposts in your head. Sally Kempton quote PEACE BUTTON\" width=\"173\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a>This shift of focus on accountability of others, presumably punishing evil, is classical psychological projection of one&#8217;s own shadow, dark side, evil onto an other.\u00a0 No doubt, evil happens.\u00a0 No doubt, evil costs dearly.\u00a0 Projecting all responsibility onto others serves the convenient purpose of shifting the cost away from our own costly choices.\u00a0 No doubt, morality is costly &#8212; just as evil is.\u00a0 Enduring these costs is the stuff of a moral life.\u00a0 This is the price of true freedom.\u00a0 Evil runs over the good for evil ends, for its own sake.\u00a0 Good revels in the good for its own sake, and somewhat paradoxically, lifts up, invites true freedom for others&#8217; sake as well \u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Peace-Signs\/Buttons\/If-No-Enemy-Within-Enemy-Without-Cannot-Harm-PEACE-QUOTE-BUTTON.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Great-Quotes\/Peace-Quotes\/Peace-Quote-Peace-Sign-52.gif\" alt=\"If No Enemy Within Enemy Without Cannot Harm--PEACE QUOTE BUTTON\" width=\"173\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a>Half of the moral life is the willingness to live into what we know to be good.\u00a0 Half of the moral life is enduring the inescapable effects of evil, what we no to be evil.\u00a0 Only God knows the half-life of evil.\u00a0 While it may be a truism that we do not get out of this life alive, we can live more than a half-life.\u00a0 May you live fully!\u00a0 Moral choices may be unclear.\u00a0 Moral choices may be extraordinarily difficult.\u00a0 Still, moral choices are always a choice.\u00a0 To deny this is the paltry heights of amorality and a brutal equivalency of evil with good.<\/p>\n<p>May you find wide-open love stronger than shadowy hate in your life.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Peace\/Buttons\/Who-is-a-hero-He-who-turns-his-enemy-into-a-friend-The-Talmud-quote-PEACE-BUTTON.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/toppun.com\/Peace\/Who-is-a-hero-He-who-turns-his-enemy-into-a-friend-The-Talmud-quote.gif\" alt=\"Who is a hero?
