{"id":1987,"date":"2015-10-09T08:09:02","date_gmt":"2015-10-09T13:09:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/?p=1987"},"modified":"2015-10-09T08:09:02","modified_gmt":"2015-10-09T13:09:02","slug":"poem-a-mega-something-owed-to-megabus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/09\/poem-a-mega-something-owed-to-megabus\/","title":{"rendered":"POEM: A Mega Something &#8212; Owed To Megabus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>We waited<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Quiet<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A long time<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>For what would be ours<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>For what would pass<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>As high noon<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Breaking the news<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>As poor<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>As the bussed itself<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Loitering in the company we keep<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A mega something<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>But not a bus<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Left to fill in the blank<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wrote this poem, and a few others, while waiting for a Megabus.\u00a0 The Megabus broke down and by the time they got a replacement bus, we had waited about four hours.\u00a0 This would have been my first ride on a Megabus, but the substitute was a standard tour bus.\u00a0 This poem is an ode to the tax of time and inconvenience that poor people pay.\u00a0 Sometimes this tax is also paying more because of poor access, such a higher cost, inner-city grocery stores.\u00a0 I lost spending an afternoon visiting with my Dad.\u00a0 Many other bus riders missed their Megabus connection, either having to wait for the next Megabus the next day or find alternative transportation.\u00a0 I will take the Megabus &#8212; or its replacement cousins &#8212; again, because I am cheap and poor.\u00a0 Overall, I prefer having more time than money.\u00a0 Sometimes, you just have to spend extra time instead of money.\u00a0 Plus, I find it hard to complain when plan B entails writing more poetry.\u00a0 It was a nice day and I visited with some interesting people.\u00a0 I am grateful to cast my lot with the bus people in the world, as not everybody has that privilege.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We waited Quiet A long time For what would be ours For what would pass As high noon Breaking the news As poor As the bussed itself Loitering in the company we keep A mega something But not a bus &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/2015\/10\/09\/poem-a-mega-something-owed-to-megabus\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[32,174,9],"tags":[66,448,658,291,94,107,513,53,529],"class_list":["post-1987","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-about-top-pun","category-news","category-poems","tag-money","tag-ode","tag-poems","tag-poet","tag-poetry","tag-poor","tag-privilege","tag-short-poems","tag-time"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>POEM: A Mega Something -- Owed To Megabus | About Top Pun, News, Poems | Top Pun&#039;s Poetry, Funny Puns, Free Posters, Public Health Radio Show!
