The loco bus<\/strong>
\nWas barely running<\/strong>
\nTrafficking in creep after creep<\/strong>
\nAt Lake & Michigan<\/strong>
\nIt was sink or swim<\/strong>
\nFacing too soon departed<\/strong>
\nTo be won or lost<\/strong>
\nBy foot<\/strong>
\nRight, left, right, left, right, left, right<\/strong>
\nMiraculously walking on Water St.<\/strong>
\nRun<\/strong>
\nRun forced<\/strong>
\nRun<\/strong>
\nWill it be<\/strong>
\nDecided by a minute minute<\/strong>
\nNo bus in site<\/strong>
\nFaded to stay<\/strong>
\nIn Chicago another day<\/strong>
\nOnly then realizing<\/strong>
\nThe line I had crossed<\/strong>
\nAs pre-sumptuously late<\/strong>
\nOther poor soles<\/strong>
\nAs per usual waiting<\/strong>
\nFore the Toledo Megabus<\/strong>
\nMega-late<\/strong><\/p>\n

This poem emanates from my trip earlier this summer out to Iowa.\u00a0 This poem is from the last of four legs of a Megabus trip.\u00a0 As it turns out, two of the four buses broke down and had to replaced with regular tour buses.\u00a0 This poem is about the serendipity of things not always working out as planned.\u00a0 Oddly, it never occurred to me that the bus I was racing to on foot would be late.\u00a0 While the bus ended up being two hours late, this was much better than missing the bus by mere minutes!\u00a0 What a beautiful thing that a bus being two hours late is a cause for celebration!\u00a0 I am a big fan of serendipity.\u00a0 As a recovering professional planner, I have spent much of my life planning to “make things happen.”\u00a0 Fortunately,\u00a0 I have witnessed so many times in my life that my plans not turning out as I liked turned out even better.\u00a0 As I have been known to say: God never gives me what I want; God gives me something much better!\u00a0 My daughter now parrots back to me the saying: If you want to make God laugh, tell God your plans.\u00a0 More recently, you might find me repeating the Niels Bohr quip: “Prediction is difficult, especially about the future.”\u00a0 \"Life<\/a>Though perhaps John Lennon said it best: “Life is what happens while you are making other plans.”\u00a0 May your life be overflowing with wonderful surprises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
