Meet me
\nWear the sky
\nKisses the ocean
\nWhere the day’s heat
\nMeets the cool of eve
\nWhere a child’s cry
\nMeets his mother’s loving ears
\nAnd a full groan man
\nBrought to his knees
\nNow stands
\nBefore his new home
\nMeet me
\nTheir
\nWhere the mountain rises to our feat
\nAnd our souls bound
\nTo that which cannot die
\nYet awe the more
\nTouched
\nBy life
\nAll meet
\nYou there
\nWhere mourning brakes
\nAs just us
\nKisses peace<\/p>\n

This poem arose from a hybrid of inspirations, from a phrase from the musical South Pacific <\/em>(about the ocean and sky meeting) and from a poem read at today’s Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) demonstration outside Toledo’s federal courthouse to end racial profiling by police and the border patrol.\u00a0 This poem is grounded in a hybrid of sorts, the daily beauty of the earth and a mother’s love combined with the longing-filled work of living for social justice.\u00a0 Of course, these ongoing works bring joy and peace in both the present and the future.\u00a0 Hope is well fed both by places near home and far away.\u00a0 May you be well fed AND hunger for justice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
