{"id":1602,"date":"2014-08-14T14:16:19","date_gmt":"2014-08-14T19:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/?p=1602"},"modified":"2014-08-14T14:16:49","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T19:16:49","slug":"poem-as-i-poor-myself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/14\/poem-as-i-poor-myself\/","title":{"rendered":"POEM: As I Poor Myself"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>As I poor myself<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Out into the streets<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A pasture for the people<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>At ease with just us<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Weather soon becoming<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A torrent of change<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Oar that which trickles our fancy<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A tributary to humanity<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>That no&#8217;s know bounds<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>And has no interest in banks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This poem is about that which makes us human, which can run still and deep or as a raging river.\u00a0 Much of life is somewhere in-between, yet hopefully that which reflects our passions and fancies.<\/p>\n<p>This poem also weaves this being human into community.\u00a0 We cannot be fully human alone.\u00a0 Or better said, we are more fully human in community.\u00a0 This may take the form of joining hands and hearts in working for justice or simply enjoying the company of others.\u00a0 Such accompaniment breeds further humanity.<\/p>\n<p>Since being human tasks us with the never-ending paradox of needing to be more than human, we face an eternal question of choosing growth or decay, participating consciously in the unfolding of life or feudally try to hold onto what is passing by.\u00a0 Humanity is furthered when its members are self-transcendent and when humanity transcends itself.\u00a0 This perpetual opportunity and call for growth seeds a certain rebellion into any status quo.\u00a0 There are always frontiers to cross, new lessons to learn, and new experiences to take in.\u00a0 The most vital moments in life cannot be banked, and this poem concludes simply with a bank shot.\u00a0 The true currency of life is not money, status, or power, but courage, hope, and kindness.\u00a0 And life is never so exacting that there is not change left over&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I poor myself Out into the streets A pasture for the people At ease with just us Weather soon becoming A torrent of change Oar that which trickles our fancy A tributary to humanity That no&#8217;s know bounds And &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/toppun.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/14\/poem-as-i-poor-myself\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9,15],"tags":[397,331,198,428,431,388,305,79,402,456,359,66,494,107,110,489,433,406,113,547],"class_list":["post-1602","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-poems","category-political-and-philosophical-musings","tag-change","tag-community","tag-courage","tag-experience","tag-heart","tag-hope","tag-humanity","tag-joy","tag-justice","tag-kindness","tag-life","tag-money","tag-passion","tag-poor","tag-power","tag-rage","tag-rebellion","tag-status","tag-status-quo","tag-transcendent"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.8 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>POEM: As I Poor Myself | Poems, Political and Philosophical Musings | Top Pun&#039;s Poetry, Funny Puns, Free Posters, Public Health Radio Show!
