On my birthday<\/strong>
\nI was given<\/strong>
\nAs were you<\/strong>
\nA time machine<\/strong>
\nA way faring<\/strong>
\nBy lusty seconds<\/strong>
\nAnd so moving<\/strong>
\nFates billed<\/strong>
\nTo hour credit<\/strong>
\nSurpassing daze<\/strong>
\nAnd weaks<\/strong>
\nA sort of colander<\/strong>
\nFor casting generations<\/strong>
\nAnd spirited characters<\/strong>
\nOf a future entranced<\/strong>
\nPassing sentries<\/strong>
\nWith unguarded lives<\/strong>
\nVaulting destiny<\/strong>
\nBy wreckless leaps<\/strong>
\nAnd bounds<\/strong>
\nUnleashed<\/strong>
\nOf those who might<\/strong>
\nSteel the future<\/strong>
\nOr simply junket<\/strong>
\nNever poor tending<\/strong>
\nAnything except their raze<\/strong>
\nIn rapturing time itself<\/strong>
\nNever coming second<\/strong>
\nWhen every one<\/strong>
\nIs of won accord<\/strong>
\nAwe due<\/strong>
\nTo the present<\/strong>
\nUnpassed<\/strong><\/p>\n

This poem goes out to all of you who have a birthday this year!\u00a0 The present is ever present. Like they say: there’s no gift like the present.\u00a0 The future is born of the present, and the future captures much of our attention.\u00a0 Nonetheless, we live our whole life in the present.\u00a0 The practice of mindfulness recognizes that NOW needs your full attention\u00a0 Of course, you can reflect on the future or the past NOW, in the present.\u00a0 The point is that conscious awareness is a huge part of what it means to be human and to live fully.\u00a0 Paying attention to our life, whatever that is at any given moment, is the stuff of life.\u00a0 As John Lennon so famously observed, “Life is what happens while your busy doing other things.”\u00a0 May the moments that you live each day make every day a birth day.\u00a0 As Will Rogers said, “May you live all the days of your life.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
