Owed to XL<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Something irresistible<\/span>
\nDrug from Canada<\/span>
\nThat must be some wick-ed shit!<\/span>
\nWhat the “eh”<\/span>
\nFor the land of the free to be<\/span>
\nSold to the highest<\/span>
\nBitter<\/span>
\nEverything must go!<\/span>
\n“It’s going to happen anyway”<\/span>
\nA juggernaut of lemmings<\/span>
\nFull of subtle plunder statements<\/span>
\nAnd generations of litter-gation<\/span>
\nBrought a bout<\/span>
\nBy agitators wanting<\/span>
\nNeither change nor dollars<\/span>
\nThough perhaps<\/span>
\nSome green back<\/span>
\nAnd a few bucks<\/span>
\nTo run free<\/span>
\nFor if<\/span>
\nNot<\/span>
\nJust<\/span>
\nChain me<\/span>
\nTo the pipeline<\/span>
\nTo the prison<\/span>
\nOf another’s drug habit<\/span>
\nThat makes cents for them<\/span>
\nA million caliber fire arm<\/span>
\nInto our vain<\/span>
\nAnd heart land<\/span>
\nAcross to be borne<\/span>
\nAgain and again<\/span>
\nUntil we fine<\/span>
\nThe dose<\/span>
\nThat kills<\/span>
\nIt’s called “XL”<\/span>
\nAs we have a fit<\/span>
\nFor our over-sized ambitions<\/span>
\nThough might<\/span>
\nAs well<\/span>
\nBe one size fits none<\/span>
\nBaggy pantsed gangstas <\/span>
\nStuffing their pants<\/span>
\nWith the stuff legends are made of<\/span>
\nGetting under Mother Earth’s kin<\/span>
\nAnd running out<\/span>
\nOf patients<\/span>
\nAnd ways to heel<\/span>
\nLeft in the mutter<\/span>
\nThere goes the neighborhood<\/span>
\nWondering if<\/span>
\nThere’s a belt big enough<\/span>
\nTo hold up<\/span>
\nThese fuels<\/span><\/p>\n

I wrote this poem today, at the prompting of yet another fuel fool brandishing the inevitability of the XL pipeline and exploitation of the Canadian boreal forest tar sands strip mining.\u00a0 Even more shameful, it was a “scientist” claiming metaphysical inevitability.\u00a0 We don’t HAVE TO strip mine the earth of every fossil fuel to live a good life — in fact, destroying the earth is absolutely incompatible with the good life.<\/p>\n

I’m sick and tired of people saying that the Canadian tar sands will be developed with or without the XL pipeline running through US.\u00a0 It’s just another lame version of the “If I didn’t do it, somebody else would” excuse for not taking responsibility for your actions.\u00a0 It’s not that complicated.\u00a0 If your actions are destroying the planet, then you have a responsibility to stop.\u00a0 Then, you can start working on changing the rest of the world.\u00a0 It may very well be the exact opposite of leadership to say that you won’t do something until everybody else does it.\u00a0 I might say that we’ve become a nation of sheep and lemmings, but that would be an insult to sheep and lemmings within whom the moral agency to save the planet does not reside!\u00a0 We can continue to kick the can down the road, but eventually, it will be Mother Nature kicking our can…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
