Eying Them Apples<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

From his firm bed rock<\/span>
\nOf unassailable logic<\/span>
\nHowever earnest<\/span>
\nHe couldn’t quite grasp love<\/span>
\nAt home in more gossamer venues<\/span>
\nWafting<\/span>
\nTeasingly just<\/span>
\nOut of reach<\/span>
\nNot able to pick up<\/span>
\nLove’s plucky de-meaner<\/span>
\nFrom afar<\/span>
\nOnly willing<\/span>
\nTo confer<\/span>
\nIts first fruits freely<\/span>
\nIn an uncertain intimacy<\/span>
\nBeyond accost<\/span>
\nOf logic’s gripping tail<\/span>
\nAs if<\/span>
\nTolled <\/span>
\nTo shake down some dog<\/span>
\nOnly to get<\/span>
\nIt all backwards<\/span>
\nAs his skepticism had made him<\/span>
\nHard for so long<\/span>
\nUntil he could know longer<\/span>
\nGet it<\/span>
\nUp sow<\/span>
\nHi<\/span>
\nBye and bye<\/span>
\nAs the apple of his eye<\/span>
\nDisembarks his safety zone<\/span>
\nLeaving him in his<\/span>
\nFree<\/span>
\nFall<\/span>
\nOut of his tree<\/span>
\nHer bounty<\/span>
\nMere droppings<\/span>
\nToo his unyielding countenance<\/span>
\nFor baring<\/span>
\nWhatever<\/span>
\nSpecter<\/span>
\nTo be<\/span>
\nSow full of crop<\/span>
\nAura leased<\/span>
\nScent-a-mentality<\/span>
\nBeckoning his wallow<\/span>
\nHis Adam’s apple<\/span>
\nLike an overzealous bobby<\/span>
\nRobbing him<\/span>
\nAs swill be the case<\/span>
\nOf reel nourishment<\/span>
\nWhile fishing on dry land<\/span>
\nWhere pomes unsurprising<\/span>
\nAre all rotting<\/span>
\nAnd naught<\/span>
\nFor giving<\/span>
\nWorming one’s heart<\/span>
\nArboring thoughts<\/span>
\nSo shady<\/span>
\nWhen looking up<\/span>
\nAs some things are<\/span>
\nBetween you and the stars<\/span>
\nSheerly facing<\/span>
\nUnremitting awning<\/span>
\nAnd sow what<\/span>
\nGives<\/span><\/p>\n

This is yet another poem addressing my common themes of the head versus the heart, logic sequestering itself from love.\u00a0 Unassailable logic, at the expense of love, seems to fit aptly with this poem’s prime metaphor, from the Bible: picking the apple from the tree of knowledge, setting off perpetual tension and confusion regarding different “fields” of knowledge.\u00a0 The many fruits from the garden of Eden may still be available, but we have become to smart or clever for our own good.\u00a0 A fixation on logic and its inevitable legalisms locks us out from accessing these higher fruits.\u00a0 We end up refusing to trade up the seeming certainty and safety of our water-tight legalistic systems for the supra-rational fruits of the spirit: “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)\u00a0 Gracefully, legalisms bind themselves up an self-destruct, not being rooted in the life-giving forces of the spirit.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the crumbling of legalistic systems can still be very dangerous as they fall.\u00a0 This is often made worse by last-ditch efforts to keep patching such systems with ever-more sophisticated legalisms.\u00a0 Nonetheless, as they fall, and we can’t take it anymore, we may just hear the perennial call from the spirit world: Sow what gives…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
