Atlantis Rules<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The young Atlantean<\/span>
\nThe imprudent progeny<\/span>
\nOf the now forgotten<\/span>
\nFamed experimental physicist father<\/span>
\nWas more infamous<\/span>
\nThan his fabled land<\/span>
\nIn pawning his dad’s curiosity <\/span>
\nAnd not taking his mother’s quiet advice<\/span>
\nA lot on his plate<\/span>
\nAll mixed up<\/span>
\nA recipe for disaster<\/span>
\nPasta touching antipasta<\/span>
\nFulminating in gastronomical proportions<\/span>
\nSwallowing up his esteemed realm<\/span>
\nAnd all that matter<\/span>
\nLeft for speculation<\/span>
\nHis lost continence<\/span>
\nEmbarrassingly flushed<\/span>
\nPrivy only<\/span>
\nTo his posterity<\/span>
\nAnd time enthroned<\/span>
\nBeing wiped out<\/span>
\nAs history often is <\/span>
\nQuite essentially mum<\/span><\/p>\n

This short story of a poem is a whimsical take on a bad joke and the persistent mythology surrounding the lost continent of Atlantis, particularly the speculation about and the fascination with its epic demise.\u00a0 The bad joke, really<\/em> bad joke, is based on the physics of matter and anti-matter, popularized by sci-fi buffs; specifically, that when matter and anti-matter come into contact there is a huge explosion upon their mutual disintegration.\u00a0 This whimsical tale parodies both the epic significance of Atlantis’ demise and the oft-underestimated importance of mothers’ advice, stemming from the hand that rocks the cradle.<\/p>\n

This poem is a good example of how my twisted mind works, connecting seemingly unrelated facts and themes into an epically dysfunctional family which strangely resembles truths!\u00a0 Of course, for those who find all of this difficult to digest, there is the perennial reference and joke about incontinence and other such eternally hilarious crudit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Like the best of stories, this one is wrapped up neatly in untraceable facts, imploding upon itself in a climactic cautionary tale, quite deliciously epitomizing the myth’s truth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
