Hard on the Poor<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Our moral compass<\/span>
\nGoes south<\/span>
\nSkewering<\/span>
\nThose below<\/span>
\nUnder lyin’<\/span>
\nPoverty abashed<\/span>
\nWithout abjections<\/span>
\nNeedle US<\/span>
\nToo say<\/span>
\nPricks<\/span>
\nHand shakers<\/span>
\nAnd grand standers<\/span>
\nRazing just for fund<\/span>
\nHe’ll freeze over<\/span>
\nBefore changing any position<\/span>
\nUndertaking another bleak poll<\/span>
\nNever about-facing mistakes<\/span>
\nFueled by deft ears<\/span>
\nAs the eaves drop on the homeless<\/span>
\nGiven props by spooks<\/span>
\nOut of focus groups<\/span>
\nLike miss diagnosing<\/span>
\nThe mortified<\/span>
\nA rhino virus<\/span>
\nIn the middle of the living<\/span>
\nRoom for a growing boy<\/span>
\nLike a Pinocchio knows<\/span>
\nRunning up bills<\/span>
\nVirulent peckers<\/span>
\nA fecund plague<\/span>
\nDeifying gravitas<\/span>
\nWith hearts sow cold<\/span>
\nBringing them to their sneeze<\/span>
\nA wretched climax<\/span>
\nEyes watering<\/span>
\nWhen seize it<\/span>
\nProgress<\/span>
\nAnd congress<\/span>
\nMembers stiff<\/span>
\nThe public<\/span>
\nRelations privatizing<\/span>
\nA press corpse<\/span>
\nUnable to issue a retraction<\/span>
\nInterminable hacks<\/span>
\nThat even in their coffin<\/span>
\nThey are still<\/span>
\nConvinced that they are<\/span>
\nLooking up<\/span>
\nMean wile<\/span>
\nEnjoin bye<\/span>
\nThe least of these<\/span>
\nHas been<\/span>
\nAll ready<\/span>
\nSpinning<\/span>
\nIn their gravy<\/span>
\nKnown as<\/span>
\nUnderground resistance<\/span>
\nEver more<\/span>
\nDigging their new haunts<\/span>
\nOffering no quarter<\/span>
\nGiving berth<\/span>
\nTo just deserts<\/span>
\nBest served<\/span>
\nCold<\/span>
\nAs south is south<\/span>
\nAnd north is north<\/span>
\nEncompassing awe<\/span>
\nProbity<\/span><\/p>\n

This poem offers a bevy of mixed metaphors and social commentary.\u00a0 I wrote this poem before the latest Republican government shutdown, but its themes are eternal in politics.\u00a0 The rich get richer and the poor get the shaft.\u00a0 Republicans moralize to others and then epitomize sleaziness themselves.\u00a0 Politics is governed more by money than the needs of the people.\u00a0 Proselytizing politicians paint themselves into a corner driving their internal contradictions into explosive stupidity matched only by their intransigence.<\/p>\n

Still, reality gives feedback.\u00a0 Karma wends its way into the path of even the morally blind.\u00a0 With wisdom, the subtle nuances of life’s ways can be discerned from a distance, and it’s gentle signs guide us in harmony.\u00a0 With increasing foolishness, a dulled capacity to read wisdom’s kindly signs, ever-increasingly blunt warnings of impending danger will be offered.\u00a0 If we insist on continuing down ever-increasingly perilous paths, mere red flags will turn to violence — sometimes physical violence, sometimes emotional violence, sometimes political violence.\u00a0 Violence is the province of fools, whose understanding ends at blunt instruments.\u00a0 May we keep our eye on wisdom’s gentle signs guiding us to harmony amidst giant oafs clumsily swinging their blunt instruments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
