The Deep End<\/strong><\/h1>\n

I fell<\/span>
\nOff<\/span>
\nThe deep end<\/span>
\nOnly too narrowly<\/span>
\nMissing a shallow end<\/span>
\nAs was my aim<\/span>
\nThe river is wide<\/span>
\nFull of whys<\/span>
\nLike some<\/span>
\nChicken of the see<\/span>
\nNot to swim<\/span>
\nTo the other side<\/span>
\nTo get over<\/span>
\nThe waterfall<\/span>
\nPlanted from above<\/span>
\nTo churning, disorienting bellow<\/span>
\nGrasping for breath<\/span>
\nVainly trying to separate<\/span>
\nWater and light<\/span>
\nWallowing in a rainbow<\/span>
\nHow becoming<\/span>
\nI am<\/span>
\nProclaiming<\/span>
\nDeep and wide<\/span>
\nOnce<\/span>
\nIs enough<\/span>
\nOr, yearning only<\/span>
\nToo due it<\/span>
\nAgain<\/span><\/p>\n

The deep part of the river of life is the center. \u00a0The point is not merely to cross over the other side — as if efficiency in this matter were some virtue — but to experience it longly and deeply. \u00a0Of course, going over the deep end in a river is a waterfall. \u00a0Again, the point is not merely to “get over it,” but to embrace it in awe of its churning and disorienting bellow. \u00a0Drink life in, even choke on it, rather than leave via a “shallow end.” Accepting the sheer beauty of life in its totality can be a powerful spiritual practice leading to more robust experience — though some may recognize that you have went off the deep end. \u00a0Without incessantly trying to break life into good parts to be sought and bad parts to be avoided we can better appreciate the epic arc of life, and our own story within it. \u00a0Of course, lived well or poorly, most of us can identify with both feelings that “once is enough” and “let’s do it again!” \u00a0May it be so.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
